NMBM MANAGES WATER PRESSURE TO REDUCE CONSUMPTION

The Municipality will continue reducing pressure across Nelson Mandela Bay, to ensure that taps do not run dry before Christmas.

Our water consumption remains high, and the combined level of storage in the local dams supplying the City are below 13%. No significant rain is predicted in the near future. Should any of the local dam systems run dry, much of the city will have dry taps. We are working at avoiding dry taps at all costs.

Earlier this year the City embarked on a City-wide pressure reduction programme to reduce water demand. By reducing pressure, consumers naturally use less water, and the impact of leaks and losses are reduced. Pressure management thus helps to reduce overall demand. Should water consumption in pressure-managed areas remain high, some residents will experience intermittent supply on a daily basis. But if everyone reduces consumption to 50 litres per person per day, then everyone will have water.

Residents can expect water pressure to be lower, however, they will still have sufficient water supply for basic needs.

There is no time to waste as dam levels continue to decrease. We urge all residents to work hand in glove with the City by keeping their daily consumption to 50 litres per person per day.

UPDATE ON WATER SUPPLY SHUTDOWN REQUIRED FOR MAINTENANCE ON THE AIRPORT PIPELINE

Repair teams has successfully completed the weld yesterday afternoon and all residents should have normal water pressure.

Should residents still be experiencing intermittent water supply, they should call the Service Delivery Call Centre on 0800 20 5050.

UPDATE ON WATER SUPPLY SHUTDOWN REQUIRED FOR MAINTENANCE ON THE AIRPORT PIPELINE

Repair teams are on-site and are currently executing welding repairs on the pipe. This will continue throughout the day.

As a temporary solution, water tankers have been deployed to the locations below:

1) Dawid Stuurman Airport

2) Elizabeth Donkin Hospital

3) Spar, Humerail

4) Corner of Heugh Road and 7th Avenue, Walmer

5) Corner of Webber Street and Gladstone Street, South End

Kindly note that the water tankers may leave to refill however, they will return to the above locations.

REMINDER OF WATER SHUTDOWN REQUIRED TO EXECUTE MAINTENANCE AT MOTHERWELL PUMPSTATION 

Plant maintenance teams will be executing critical maintenance at the Motherwell pumpstation on Monday, November 22, 2021.

During the 36 hour shutdown period, there will be reduced water supply from Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works.

The system will be augmented in an attempt to minimise disruptions however, residents must keep in mind that intermittent disruptions could still be experienced during this period.

Should residents reduce water consumption as indicated on the map in the link below, then supply should not be affected.
